When the ad transparency movement gained momentum, larger platforms attempted to give users more clarity by explaining why they are seeing certain suggested ads or even give them the option to opt out of personalized ads.
While this helped users feel more safe and informed, it also causes tension between platforms and the partners who advertise on them in order to allow for tree use of their applications.
